Oil Delivery Syndicate

Our Aims

A growing group of villagers now coordinate their heating / aga oil requirements in order to obtain bulk buying power. This allows us to order collectively. And, this saves us all some money by getting special "bulk discount" prices for our oil, and also reduces the number of oil tanker deliveries to the village, thereby helping reduce congestion and environmental impact.

When do we order?

We generally order 4 - 5 times a year depending on prices and requirements. Typically, we order during:
* January
* April/May
* August/September
* November

How does it work?

We maintain a list of interested parties - generally householders in the Rodmell (see below to join).
When we are ready to make an order, we send out a note - mostly by email, but a paper copy is sent for those who do not use email. This note gives an estimated delivery date and a guide price, and requests an estimate of how much oil you require for this delivery.
Once we have received everyone's requirements, we ring round to all oil companies and get their prices for this "bulk" order - and we then go with the most competitively priced oil available at that time. We generally save 3p to 5p per litre - which makes a considerable saving on large orders.
Once a price and delivery date is agreed, we then send out another note giving the details of the price we've got, and the date by which each person needs to ring the oil company with their own individual requirements and their payment details. This means that each individual receiving an oil delivery handles their own payments direct to the oil company - this keeps the process clean and simple. An oil tanker then comes to the village on the appointed day, and fills the tanks for each person who has ordered oil.
